Your tutoring and educational sponsorship
Dear pupils, parents and guardians,
Schülerpaten Dortmund e.V. offers free tutoring for pupils from immigrant families.
The volunteer mentors come to your home once a week for at least one hour during their free time to go over the difficult topics from school with you or maybe to do something together.
As there are a lot of pupils registering for tutoring, we ask for your patience and understanding that there could be a waiting time until the start of the educational sponsorship.
WHO CAN REGISTER FOR FREE TUTORING?
- You need support in school – no matter in which subject.
- You attend grades 1 – 13.
- You or someone else in your family have immigrated or fled to Germany.
- Unfortunately, private lessons at a private tuition institute are too expensive for you or your parents.
We use your data in the registration form solely under the terms of our privacy policy.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU REGISTER?
1. We will look for a mentor for you. You can choose whether you want to be assigned to a male or female mentor.
2. We will contact you or your parents to arrange a meeting with you and your mentor. A member of our organising team will also be present at the meeting.
3. At the meeting, you and your mentor will get to know each other. If you get along well, the educational sponsorship can begin!
WHAT DO YOU AND YOUR PARENTS HAVE TO DO DURING THE EDUCATIONAL SPONSORSHIP?
- Your mentor is there to help you with problems and questions about your schoolwork and to review with you the topics that are still difficult for you at school. Of course, you can also talk about something other than school, but you should still be willing to learn something.
- For tutoring, you and your mentor need calmness and concentration. It is important that you two are not disturbed during tutoring and that you have a place to work. If this is not possible at home, please let us know and we will find a solution.
- Your mentor can give you and your parents advice and tips, but important decisions about your school career must be made by your family.
SAFETY AND SUPPORT FOR THE EDUCATIONAL SPONSORSHIPS
The protection of children and young people is very important to Schülerpaten Dortmund e.V.!
We get to know our mentors personally before the tutoring and make sure that they have no criminal record by means of an extended certificate of good conduct. All participants act in accordance with our child protection concept as part of a self-commitment declaration.
You, your family and your mentors never have to feel left alone during the educational sponsorship because you can always contact our “Support and further training” team when there are questions or problems. In this case please contact us under betreuung@schuelerpaten-dortmund.de
